Fish in your backyard pond.

Fish in your backyard pond.

Backyard pond fish are a great part of having a pond.  Without them can make your pond a little plain.  Now don’t get me wrong, you can have a pond without fish, but having them makes it a lot more fun.

Some of the best fish to have for your backyard pond include Koi, Comets, and Shubunkins.  These fish are very easy to take care of, basically all you have to do is feed them.

I can guarantee you that you’ll get a lot of comments about your fish and the little kids just love them and get a big kick out of seeing them.

My wife and I bought our first fish the day after we made our first pond.  It was about four inches long and is now, 15 years later, about 2 feet long.  It’s a Koi and gets bigger every year.

Koi are the largest, but not the prettiest fish, but our Comets and Shabunkins are beautiful.  The Comets are bright orange and the Shubunkins are multi colored.

Backyard pond fish are not real expensive to buy and as I said they live quite a long time and they definitely multiply.  We initially bought about six fish and presently have about 30 or 35.  We had more, however we lost a few over the past couple of years.

Below is a video of us feeding our fish.  You can see how big they are now and what you can expect if you get fish for your backyard pond.

The Shubunkins are slowly getting bigger and the Comets seem to hit a certain size and slow down in their growth.  I’m not positive, but I heard that the fish will only get to a certain size depending on the size pond that you have.

If you’re going to have a pond, I highly recommend that you get some fish for it.  You and your family and friends will really enjoy them.  Your fish will be like your pets.  You can even get them to eat out of your hand.

You’re more than likely able to get your backyard pond fish from your local hobby store or outdoor pond store.

For those of you who have fish in your pond, how have they been for you?  Let us know.  Bob
