Information For Your Backyard Pond

Today I want to talk to you about your pond water during the summer.  During the summer it gets hot and has a definite effect on your pond.  You’ll notice that your water is getting green with algae.  Well to help combat it, having plenty of pond plants will go a long way.  The best thing to have however, is a UV Clarifier which will clear your water up in a matter of a few days.  This is one of the questions that I receive the most and I just wanted to let you know.

Some of the best growing plants for your pond are Water Hyacinths and Water Lettuce.  They spread out fast and give your pond and fish plenty of shade.   Talk to you next time.  Bob

Today I’d like to talk to you about the Laguna Powerclear Max UV Clarifier. One of the most important parts to having a pond with nice clear water is to have a UV filter or sometimes called UV light. These little pieces of equipment work wonders and are the answer to getting your pond water crystal clear. I wouldn’t be without one.

What the Laguna Powerclear Max UV Clarifier does is allow water to pass through it, as the water passes through the UV light inside the tube kills the algae which is the reason your water may be green. If you have green water, just give this UV clarifier a few days and it will clear it right up. Pictured below is the Laguna Powerclear Max UV Clarifier. If you have a pond, you don’t want to be without a UV clarifier.

Pondmaster Pond Pumps

Posted by Bob under Pond Pumps

Pondmaster pond pumps should be at the top of your list if you’re looking for a good quality piece of equipment. These water pumps just go on and on without any maintenance. In the twelve years that we’ve had our pond, Pondmaster pumps have been ones we use.

Pictured above is the Pondmaster Mag Drive pump. This pump comes with different water flow specs, depending on what you need. The PM5 is rated at 475 gallons per hour, the PM7 at 675 gallons per hour, and the PM9 at 950 gallons per hour.

You can use these pumps for circulation, filtration, water features, and waterfalls. These water pumps run 24/7 and from my experience will not give you any trouble.

The Mag Drive pump is powered by magnets and the only moving part in it is the impeller. In all the years using this type of pond pump, I only had to replace the impeller in it one time.

Well today is Saturday, April 19, and the noise from the spring peepers is loud and clear. It took a while this year for them to return, but they did and man are they loud. Wife has been busy around the pond and has it looking good for early in the season. The water is slowly clearing up and the fish are coming back to life. It’s great to have Spring back!

Well here we are in the last week of February and spring is almost here. It’s time to start thinking about getting your backyard pond ready for the season… at least us who live in a cold weather climate.

You’ll want to get out there and rake around the pond, try and get any leaves and other debris out of your pond, and get your pond equipment rounded up and ready to go. Yea, what a great time of year when you can get it going. It won’t be long when you start hearing the spring peepers going at it. So cheer up, springs almost here. Talk to you later, Bob

You know over the years of having a backyard pond, it has taken some work to get it established, but it’s nice to have.

It’s nice to hear the spring peepers during early spring, the colorful fish, the sound of the waterfall, flowers and plants blooming, along with the birds, frogs, butterflies that are naturally attracted to the pond.

It’s neat when the small kids come around and see the fish. They’re just fascinated. What’s really neat is that most of the adults that see them are usually more fascinated.

Yea, it’s well worth having a backyard pond and I’m sure we will for many years to come.

Tell us what you like about your pond. Leave a comment.
